The Haringey Wheelchair Racing Group meets every Sunday at 11am at the White Hart Lane Community Sports Centre, Haringey.
Haringey Tesco Great School Run Exceptional Day Although the sky was grey and gloomy, 608 year 3s and 4s from seven Haringey Primary Schools made their way to the White Hart Lane Community Sports Centre for the first Haringey Tesco Great School Run.
Students from Ferry Lane, Muswell Hill, North Harringay, Mulberry, Coleridge, Crowland and Welbourne Primary Schools all took part in a 2k fun run on the athletics track throughout the day. (photo of one school attached) Students were joined by teachers and parents in the 5 laps of the track, with a great warm up by the Tesco Great School Run Team and prizes and medals awarded at the end.
The rain held off until the very last race, but the students and staff persisted with all people finishing the race before the skies truly opened, so congratulations to all who took part, and a big thank you to the volunteers and the young leaders from Woodside School for supporting the event and keeping the kids going when the going got tough!
Bruce Castle Park Festival Even with the rain coming down for the first hour, the Bruce Castle Festival on May 7th was a great place to be. With Tottenham Hotspurs shoot out, Cardio Tennis, England Netball, old school races by the Haringey Activator and loads of other activities and music people flooded into the water logged park to give things a go.
As part of the run up to the Torch Relay Event on the 25th July it was clear to see that there is big demand for festival days in the parks in Haringey, and a great uptake of information about running in the borough. The Haringey Activator handed out flyers for running in the borough, and also started to promote the new running group that will be starting in the park at the end of May and will be affiliating with Run England.
Haringey 5K Your Way Team Success After weeks of promotion, handing out flyers, putting up posters and sending out emails the Haringey 5K Your Way Team made it to the start line at the Hackney Marshes Event on May 2nd.
Haringey came 4th in the registration race with 96 participants and had a great time walking, jogging and running the course on the drizzly Wednesday evening. With £5 from each registration fee going to the Mayor’s Charity, Team Haringey raised £480 for Haringey Carers and also raised the profile of having an active workplace, with team members coming from across the council, heath sector and Homes For Haringey. Well done to all, and see you next year!
Hornsey YMCA 10k and Community Games Festival Once again the England Athletics Pop Up track made an appearance in Haringey, at the first borough Community Games Festival.
Running alongside the annual Hornsey YMCA 10k and children’s 1 mile races, the Community Games area was packed with hula hoops, limbo, speed bounce, crazy catch and lots more, all surrounding the track as the centre piece. On the track adults and kids could register to take part in a whole host of old school fun races like egg and spoon, sack races and 3 legged races – with the day’s favourites being the space hopper races and mini hurdles. (photos attached – adult space hopper, kids 3 legged, sack and 3 legged podium) Spectators and participants alike were impressed by the pop up track and really loved the atmosphere of fun and competition that it created in the festival. Many thanks to Hornsey YMCA for inviting the Athletics Activator to be part of an excellent day. Follow @londonathletics| Attachment | Size |
