Highgate Harriers At The Olympic Opening Ceremony

Seven lucky Young Athletes from Highgate Harriers were given the fantastic opportunity to attend the Opening Ceremony as guests of VISA. Harriers coach Lindsay Kehoe, whose brother Stephen is the Head of Corporate Relations for VISA, took Robel Bahelbi, Gabriel Springer, Lulu Szego, Hannah Viner, Arnold, Linnet and Herbert Mensuoh to the VISA reception at a West End hotel before being whisked off down the Olympic fast lane to the Stadium. More entertaining in the VISA hospitality tent before the seven took their place in prime seats to experience Danny Boyle’s spectacular extravaganza. Along the way they even bumped into Hollywood star Orlando Bloom!

Playing a part in the Ceremony were two other Harriers – Amy Cotter and June Carroll. Amy led the Armenia team into the Stadium while June was part of the GB Olympic medallist contingent that were present at the lighting of the Olympic flame. June, recently awarded Honorary Life membership to Highgate Harriers, is a double Olympian winning Bronze in 1952 and Silver in 1956, both in the 4 x 100m relay.
