A week in the life of East End Road Runners

Wednesday 13th  “Elvis #4”

After EERR’s impressive debut Elvis Race hosted at the Olympic park, the club returned to their campaign in the race series. The mud and trails of Epping Forest didn’t deter the runners from strapping on their trail shoes and showing the other clubs how it’s done. Seth Healey came first for the club in an impressive time of 30.04. Rebecca White secured third woman in 37.39. Shannon Diggory made her distance debut in 48.43 after having very recently joined the club. The women’s team moved into second place.

Thursday 14th “Great Team Relay”

East End Road Runners out performed themselves in the Great Team Relay in the Olympic Stadium last Thursday. Members came forward in great numbers to offer their services as marshals at the race. Thanks to their hard work (coordinated by Ulrike Gerstenberg) the club received twelve free places, enough for three mixed teams. Rebecca White, Tess Healey, Jamie Zucker and Seth Healey made up the winning team securing a photo (or two) with the great Brendan Foster. But the party didn’t stop after the last runner was through. The club continued to boogie the night away thanks to the band dedicating purple rain to the fantastic club secretary Shirley Sceats who was celebrating her birthday.

Sunday 17th “The Great Newham Run”

As a Newham based club, the Great Newham London Run is a fixture in the club’s calendar. 70 purples donned the club colors in preparation.  4 members were pacers, sporting bunny ears and tail. The day was too hot for personal bests but the purple army still dominated the course. Seth Healey was first home in 36.49 and Marcella Roth first woman home in 47.30. Phill Minns, Jamie Zucker, Celine Homsey and Cheryl St Jean-Ellis worked as pacers throughout the race. The occasion was marked with lots of cake, group photos and a game of bowls.
