Aims
  • Grow and sustain participation levels in athletics
  • Increase the number of volunteers involved in the sport
  • Improve the quality of experience for all participants
  • Raise the standard of coaching and performance levels of athletes
  • Improve the efficiencies of Club administration and management
  • Provide additional competition opportunities for young athletes appropriate to their age
Key Projects

The Network has identified a number of priority projects to focus on during the first the first half of 2010. These include the following:

  • Creation of a centralised network administration system
  • Plan and organise two locally driven network events for coaches, officials, club officials and other volunteers.
  • Continue to work towards establishing a culture in the clubs in order to develop, train and deploy 16-20 year old club athletes to become the next generation of coaches. Set up coaching opportunities through the clubs junior academies/clubs.
  • Continue to develop and update the Network's website and Facebook pages.
  • To work with the Kent Rural Network to plan and run the 2011/12 Kent County Coach and Athlete Development Days.
  • Encourage and provide opportunities for coaches to develop their skills and knowledge. Also to arrange further Flying Coach sessions to generate a greater interest amongst coaches and athletes in a range of events
  • Continuation & extension of Network Coach and Athlete Development Workshops, high jump (in place), hammer (in place), horizontal jumps (in place), shot / discus / javelin (senior coach has agreed to do discus), road-running / endurance (to be arranged).
  • Provide additional Youth (Short Form) Competition opportunities for club and school athletes:
  • Sportshall leagues
    QuadKids competition
    Super 8
  • Organise series of workshops: psychology, nutrition, competition preparation, etc.
  • Organise First aid courses.
  • Establish a least one Run England group.
  • Investigate the possibility of organising a charity family run during Spring 2012.
