Older people throw themselves into the excitement of London 2012
Earlier this year Run! Activator Nicole Evans supported Link Age + and St Hilda’s East Community Centre in there submission of a funding application to Comic Relief. They were successful in their bid gaining financial support to deliver a series of taster events bringing the excitement of the Olympics to the older generation.
To mark 100 days to go, 70 service users aged 50+ were given the opportunity to take part in various activities and Run! Activator Nicole Evans was on hand to provide participants with an introduction in the discipline of Javelin. Keeping it simple, each individual had three attempts at hitting the target with their turbo javelin – an activity they had never seen before outside of an athletics stadium. Devika Jeetun who regularly visits the staff within the organisation said “I’ve really enjoyed today and the javelin was great as it is an easy way to ensure I do some physical activity. I hope I can access the activity in the community”.
