Hercules Wimbledon Athletic Club’s top young sprinter Rechmial Miller, who was Britain’s fastest under 20 100m performer this summer, has been included by British Athletics in a 32-strong “Futures Programme” squad, reports Tom Pollak.
The “Futures Programme” identifies talented young athletes and their coaches as the next generation of British senior internationals with more targeted support for physiotherapy and other services. Miller will be aiming to compete in the European Junior Championships in 2017 which are being held in Grissetto, Italy, next July.
Miller, who has not raced since he pulled up with a hamstring injury in the IAAF World Junior Championships 100m final in Poland in July, where he was a strong favourite to get a medal, has now almost fully recovered from the injury and has resumed full training.
Miller, 18, gained selection for the World championships in Poland by winning the England junior men’s 100m title at Bedford in 10.47 seconds in June after clocking a faster wind-assisted 10.43 in winning his heat. His fastest time of the summer was at an international meeting in Germany, also in June, when he clocked a lifetime best of 10.23 to win his race with the help of a slight following wind.
